The
Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
increases the number of historically underrepresented and
*economically disadvantaged students pursuing careers leading
to professional licensure or professions in mathematics, science,
technology and health-related fields.
CSTEP Programs provides students with academic enrichment
and research experience in science, mathematics and technology
content areas. Programs consist of summer and academic year
components including:
- Supervised training in research methods
- Internships
- Graduate/Professional school admissions counseling
- Standardized test preparation
- Academic and career development activities
CSTEP Improves Student Readiness through support services
such as:
- Enriching science and mathematics instruction
- Learning science content through research based practical
training
- Introducing inquiry based learning techniques
- Providing standardized graduate school test preparation
- Assisting students with the graduate/professional school
application process
CSTEP Increases Career Awareness through by:
- Providing practical training to link coursework to careers
- Convening career development conferences
- Displaying student accomplishments through presentations,
competitions and awards
- Providing graduate and professional school recruitment
opportunities
There are fifty-one (51) CSTEP Programs housed at institutions
of higher education and/or professional schools across New
York State. Admission to a CSTEP program is competitive and
requires students to participate in an application process.

*Economic eligibility guidelines are determined by the state
of New York. Students who are not underrepresented (e.g.,
Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native, or
American Indian) must meet these income guidelines. Please

Impact and Accomplishments:
CSTEP Results:
- Over 70% of CSTEP students matriculate in STEM and
health related fields
- On average, more than 15% of CSTEP graduates enter
licensed professions each year
- Over 5,500 underrepresented and economically disadvantaged
students participate annually in CSTEP
- CSTEP seniors graduate at a higher rate than non-CSTEP
peers
- CSTEP graduates pursue graduate programs and licensure
at a higher rate than their non-CSTEP peers.
