Significant Professional or Academic Accomplishments:
Shante White is a 2008 graduate of Henninger High School in
Syracuse, NY and the Le Moyne College S.T.E.P. program. Faced
with a number of significant personal and family challenges
which could very easily have derailed her, Shante willed herself
to achieve success despite these challenges. Not only was
she fully involved in the STEP program, she was captain of
the girl’s track team, won several state titles in the
discus and shot put, served on the Student Council, worked
part time, and was consistently named to the high honor roll.
While in STEP, she won first prize for her research project
at the annual statewide conference. She also worked as a research
assistant for Le Moyne College science faculty and received
an award for her participation in workforce preparation activities.
To culminate her high school career, she was designated a
Gates Millenium Scholar by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
After graduation, she entered the University of Buffalo, where
she is currently a senior in the Advanced Honors Nursing program
working on her senior thesis which investigates the effects
of alcohol and drug addictions upon families. At Buffalo,
she is a member of C.S.T.E.P., the Honor Society of Nursing,
and the women’s track team, where she has broken the
school record in the women’s hammer throw and has won
the MAC championship in that event. With a career goal of
becoming a nurse anesthetist, she will graduate in June with
a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, following which she
will take her nursing boards to become an R.N.
