Statewide Day of Service
Activities
Purpose: Provide education and career information
to students (not currently served by STEP and CSTEP) in grades
4-12 regarding science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM) and health fields and the licensed professions.
Who is involved: Every funded STEP and CSTEP
project participates in DOS activities. Over one hundred projects
deliver a consistent message statewide promoting access for
historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged
students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) and health fields and the licensed professions.
How we do it:
- Each STEP and CSTEP project recruits volunteers to assist
in their planned activities including current students,
alumni, project staff, instructors, tutors, and mentors.
- Activities are usually classroom-based to ensure that
the greatest numbers of students are exposed to the fields
of study promoted by STEP and CSTEP. In addition, STEP and
CSTEP projects may sponsor activities that take place outside
of the school setting.
- Presentations are custom-tailored by the STEP and CSTEP
project representatives, and include a standardized message
and conclude with a referral to the STEP and CSTEP website
- www.stepforleaders.org and other helpful resources for
students to become informed on STEM and licensed professions.
- All activities occur between the Fall and Spring semester.
