Significant Professional or Academic Accomplishments:
Alex McGreevy is currently a sophomore Engineering and Management
major at Clarkson University. This major integrates business
with science, engineering, and technology. Alex was a STEP
student for four years and took full advantage of the features
of our program. In particular, Alex’s research project
on “The Effects of Magnetic Fields on Living Organisms”
won a third place trophy at the 2010 STEP Statewide Student
Conference in Albany, NY. Alex participated in Science Olympiad
and our local roller coaster design competition, applying
ideas from math and science to real world problems. Since
coming to Clarkson, Alex has acted as a mentor to our current
STEP students by helping run workshops during our campus visits
which focus on college preparation and STEM careers. He has
run activities at our local Day of Service events such as
the North Country Science and Engineering Festival. He also
has worked closely with students on research projects and
analysis of roller coaster physics during our Summer Roller
Coaster Camp for two years in a row. He has been a true asset
to our team since he has been involved with nearly all aspects
of our program as a mentor, and he provides a unique perspective
since he was a STEP student. Academically, Alex has embraced
college. He participated in the Physics Team Design Program
and Advanced Laboratory Experience for students enrolled in
the Calculus-based Physics sequence. This program provides
a simulated research experience to help prepare students for
internships and careers in the applied sciences. We look forward
to watching his career unfold.
