Significant Professional or Academic Accomplishments:
Alisha J. Taggart-Powell, is presently the Senior Academic
Advisor for the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Nursing
(UBGSN). In this role, she coordinates and oversees the academic
advisement and recruitment of undergraduate students interested
in pursuing a degree in Nursing. Enrolled in the Buffalo Public
schools, Alisha graduated from Bennett High school and was
a participant in the UB medical STEP program. She obtained
a Bachelors of Science degree in Sociology from Buffalo State
College. An Arthur A. Schomburg Graduate Fellow, she earned
a Master’s degree in Social Work from UB.
Throughout her career, Alisha has held many leadership positions
within Western New York serving on various not-for-profit
boards. She was past President of the Board of Directors for
Prevention Focus Inc, Western Region Division Representative
for the National Association of Social Workers, and Chair
of the Policy Committee for Bethel Head Start. For the past
six years Alisha has served as a mentor for college bound
students through the University at Buffalo Office of Career
Services Meet-a-Mentor program. She is a member of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority Inc. and is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Buffalo.
Alisha is a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church
and serves on the Geneva M. Allen Missionary Unit. She is
married to Rasheen Powell and they are the proud parents of
a son, Rasheen Powell Jr. who is a recent graduate of the
UB Medical STEP program and is currently majoring in Science
at UB.
