Khalilah Ramdene is what you would call a STEP lifer. She
joined Albany Medical College (AMC) STEP during her sophomore
year at Albany High School. She was a member of AMC STEP for
the next eight years. After graduating from high school Khalilah
attended the University at Albany on a full academic scholarship,
and assumed the role of assistant coordinator of AMC STEP
before eventually moving to the position of Program Coordinator.
While in her last year as AMC STEP coordinator, Khalilah introduced
a number of food and nutrition centered topics into the curriculum
as a way to explore the widely discussed issue of youth and
obesity in the U.S. Khalilah’s interest in science and
food has motivated her to study Gastronomy- an academic discipline
that explores the relationships between humanity, culture
and food at Boston University where she is pursing a Master
degree in the department of History & Culture. Khalilah
also works as a food writer and photographer in Boston, MA.
Because of Khalilah’s science foundation, and AMC STEP’s
ability to cultivate these interests early in her academic
life, her future continues to be a bright one.
