Significant Professional or Academic Accomplishments:
Fulton Montgomery Community College (FMCC) STEP would like
to highlight a current senior who has exemplified what it
means to be a STEP student. Lesley Cordero has been involved
in STEP since 7th grade and has taken every opportunity to
take full advantage of all that STEP has to offer. She has
been faithful in her attendance to after school classes, Saturday
Academy, field trips and conferences. She has presented research,
is a key member of our Varsity Science Bowl team and truly
leads the STEP program underclassmen by her example and focus
on academics. Her goal is to one day achieve her Ph.D. in
Computer Engineering and make her mark in the STEM field.
It is with no doubt she will. To that end, Lesley was accepted
into and has attended some of the nation’s best science
programs in pursuit of acceptance into the top college of
her choice. This summer and fall alone she attended MIT’s
E2@MIT program, an engineering program focused on computer
science, CURIE Academy, a weeklong engineering program at
Cornell University, the EE Just Symposium at Dartmouth focusing
on scientific research and Explore Bowdoin which offers high-achieving
students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to visit
all expenses paid. Outside of STEP she is also the President
of both the Science and the Robotics Club, Marching band treasurer,
a member of Masterminds, the Society of Hispanic Professional
Engineers and Medical Explorers. Well done, Lesley! A big
thanks for being a part of FMCC STEP!
